The Gay and Lesbian Memorial

The city of Frankfurt is chock-full of impressive and stirring monuments, and one such monument is the Gay and Lesbian Memorial located on the corner of Alte Gasse and Schäfergasse – the city’s main gay and lesbian area. Central to the monument is Rosemarie Trockel’s ‘injured angel’, an androgynous bronze angel with a scar across its neck. The Gay and Lesbian Memorial was built in remembrance of the many homosexuals who were persecuted and killed under Nazi rule. The monument was the first of its kind in Germany, and it also features a circle of benches and hedges. Today, the memorial also acts as a meeting place for the local community.


The Main Tower

Palmengarten botanical garden

Frankfurt am Main is home to many beautiful public areas, and one of the most popular is the stunning Palmengarten botanical garden. It is located in the Westend-Süd area of the city, and it was created and financed by famed architect Heinrich Siesmayer. The park was opened to the public in 1871, and it has been a popular destination for both tourists and locals every since. The park spans 29 hectares and it features both climate-controlled and free-air greenhouses displaying a stunning array of tropical and subtropical plants. The park is located next to the lovely Frankfurt Botanical Garden.
